Within this site, you find cool projects you can do yourself and where to find the materials you need to complete them.
As a young girl growing up in a rural community, I had to have a pretty good imagination. My friends and I played outside, busy building tree houses or clubhouses to play house. The one thing I focused on more than the actual structure itself, was how to make it pretty. I wanted to decorate it, paint it, put in a door or window so the natural light could come in. This was not always as easy as it looked. I had watched my mom and dad do DIY projects in our home lots of times, but “watching” and “doing” was two totally different things. I learned pretty quickly that while some things come pretty easy, others are more “trial and error” or basically start over from scratch with what materials are available.
As most young adults, I didn’t move out of my parents’ home into a home I had purchased. I rented apartments or houses where there was plenty to decorate, but little maintenance or remodeling work to be done. It wasn’t until much later in life, when I purchased a home, how important previously learned lessons would come in handy. Sometimes, working with materials that are available are things that you already have, but don’t realize how to go about transforming those into useful items. Also, purchasing an item doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be used for what you originally intended.
It was not until I married a carpenter and we purchased our home that I realized what DIY was all about. Let me say, for me, it was all DIY. For my husband, it was normal routine and work. I have to credit him for a lot of what I have learned, with other contributions from hours of research online and watching many DIY t.v. shows. Our home was nice and very livable, but was in desperate need of remodeling. Open floor concept was unheard-of when our home was built, but that was all about to change. That was the first thing my husband wanted to do- open up the living room, dining room and kitchen areas. Things just went from there. While there will always be new ideas, fashions, and maintenance to be done, knowledge is key. DIY projects can take hours, days, months, or in some cases, years to complete. But know what you want and stay focused so you can later sit back and enjoy your accomplishments.
While all DIY home projects are different, guidance in the right direction can always be a plus. Knowing what tools or materials you will need for a certain project can be a huge help. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new. I want to connect you to what you need that will help you accomplish the satisfaction of knowing you done it yourself and it is BEAUTIFUL!
