Wallpaper for your home has changed over the years. There one was a time when your had to deal with thick, sticky paste or adhesive to apply wallpaper. And trying to remove it was worse than the application process.
That is no longer the case. Wallpaper has become so simple that it’s crazy not to use it, even if just for an accent wall. The new peel and stick wallpaper is easy to apply as well as remove. All your have to do is measure, cut, peel of the backing and apply it to the area, then smooth it out. It’s really that simple! It also stays where your put it until your get ready to remove it, which is also just as simple. All your have to do is start at one corner and pull-no mess.
Interior wallpaper designs are so fresh and new, your can find one for any room in your home. You can use wallpaper for just an accent wall, in between shelves, on drawer or cabinet fronts, or do the entire room.
I had not even considered using wallpaper when remodeling our home for a few reasons. First, because it was such a pain to apply (which is no longer the case). Second, I had not seen any readily available while I was shopping for materials. Third, the removal process was difficult and messy. Last, I wasn’t sure if I did find some that I would like the designs (thinking of designs from years ago that I never really cared for). But all that changed while I was actually shopping for a decal for my living room wall. I had seen one while visiting a friend and just had to have one. It was in that area of the store where I saw the new peel and stick wallpaper.
There were several styles to choose from that were very appealing to me. So I decided to give it a go. But I have to say, I was a bit skeptical about if it would really adhere to the wall that well because anything previously I had used which had “peel and stick” on the label didn’t work out so well for me. But your can’t succeed if your don’t try, so I picked some up with a hopeful heart.
While it seems wallpaper has only just started to become more readily available, there are still many designs to choose from. Now there is wallpaper that looks like anything from distressed wood to brick. There is also the wallpaper with patterns if your choose that style. There is even one style that looks like your are walking into a forest of birch wood trees. It is truly amazing to see all the wonderful designs and how realistic they look.
Wallpaper can transform any room from “plain” to “amazing” without a lot of work actually. Some people don’t really like to paint and this is the perfect solution! It gives the room a different look without having to worry with getting the correct color of paint, rollers, or the accidental paint drippings on floors or other items.
New Application Process
Before the new peel and stick type of wallpaper, the application of wallpaper was very time-consuming and quite messy. With the old style wallpaper, there was always some type of adhesive that had to be applied to the back, or if the adhesive was already pre-applied your usually had to use water to get the whole process going. If your did not use enough water, the paper would not stick properly and began peeling off. It was a very delicate balance. It was very thick, bulky and not very flexible-which made it even more difficult in corners.
This is no longer the case. The new peel and stick wallpaper is so easy to apply, it’s crazy!
First, your need to get the square footage of the space your are going to be covering in the room your choose. Then, pick your design. The wallpaper has the amount of space it covers right on the package, so there is no guess work. I always measure the amount I need, such as the length from the top of my wall to the bottom, then cut it with a utility knife. Start at the top by peeling a small amount of the backing off the wallpaper, making sure it’s straight and stick it in place. Work your way down using a smoothing tool until your reach the bottom.
Now for the really awesome part….your can always peel it back off some if your need to and re-stick it! We are all human and make some mistakes. When I was applying the wallpaper in my bathroom, I had some places that had small air bubbles or wrinkles. Not to worry! All I did was pull back the paper a little, and smoothed it back out as I re-stuck it in place. It looked great!
New Removal Process
When people want to remodel or just give a room a new look, as we all sometimes do, removing this wallpaper is a breeze. As apposed to the old style adhesive type wallpaper, removal is simply pulling it from the wall. No adhesive remover, water, scraping or messy cleanup with the peel and stick wallpaper.
I know what your may be thinking, if it comes off that easily then how well does it actually stay stuck in place on the wall. Don’t worry, I was skeptical also! I actually put this type of wallpaper in my kid’s bathroom. I really wasn’t sure how it would do with the moisture from the shower and all, but it has withstood the test for over a year. I have not had any peeling, shifting, or shrinking. Even in the corners!
Interior wallpaper designs have changed quite a bit over the years. Not only the appearance, but the application and removal process as well. With new, great designs and easy application, it is an awesome addition to any room in your home. You can also use wallpaper just for an accent wall if your are happy with your room, but just want something to add a little “pop”.
If your have been like me and shied away from wallpaper in the past, it’s time to break out to see what it can do for your room. There’s nothing stopping your from taking that chance on something that can make such a big different from so little time.
